Theres nothing showing any kind of signs that somehow, gravity will become much stronger, enough to pull the whole universe together again. Everything in the universe is flying away from eachother, and we've never seen any variations on that, so it's only reasonable that the expansion will continue until the big chill.

In that case, though, it goes nowhere towards the concept of how the universe was first formed, and it would give our universe a finite lifetime, meaning that it had to have a reason for it's beginnings. We'd never be able to see how, though, because it's impossible to see what happened before the start of everything around us.

Maybe someday dark matter will further our exploration of the concepts...
